How Can They Justify Viagra Pricing in the United States

Viagra was first patented in 1996. That is 20 years ago. They began selling it in 1998. A generic Viagra will be allowed to be sold in the United States beginning in December 2017. That means for 19 years, Pfizer will have had a monopoly on the drug which they discovered while working on another drug. They did not spend millions developing this drug it was an accidental discovery. How then do they justify the more than $50 per pill, yes I said $50 per pill price?  Talk about paying for sex!!!  The price of sex is priceless in their opinion.

They don’t try to justify it. Government regulations allow them to price gouge and so they do. Somehow, no one is complaining about this pricing. If you are a man with erectile dysfunction, this can mean that if you would like to have marital relations with your wife once a week, it will cost you $2600.00 a year, twice a week, over $5,200. People have been up in arms over a $600 epi-pen which probably will only need to be purchased once a year but no one is complaining about Viagara. Medicare does not cover Viagra, that alone should be a wake-up call!!

I wonder if it is because sex is involved. No one wants to admit that sex is part of mature adult’s lifestyle. No one wants to know that their parents have sex!! Wake up America, seniors have sex and if they want it more than once a week or even once a week, people on a fixed income will have to decide between food and sex, not a pretty picture.  It isn’t just about men either, some women enjoy having sex with their husband, shocking as it may seem!!  Paying more than $50 every time we want to enjoy marital relations is ludicrous.   amazon

So ludicrous in fact,  that I decided to do something about it. I order Viagra from Canada. What does it cost? About $1.50 a pill. Now I only have to decide whether I want sex or a burger at McDonald’s, sex wins hands down. It is a scandal that this kind of pricing, targeted against people of a certain age,  is allowed to continue. Chances are, the price of generic Viagara will still be massively overpriced in this country, we will have to see.

Seniors need to be more vocal about this blatant discrimination against one of the largest groups of people in America, senior men!! and their wives.  Ageism is alive and well in the drug industry.  This issue also has a lot to do with mental health, sex is a natural and healthy part of mental and physical health.  Why aren’t more legislators fighting for fair Viagra pricing?   I wonder if anyone will ever answer these questions?
