How do you cook red or yellow onions?
Stir fries, stew, curries and salads?
Don’t use onions for the usual boring recipes with onions and garlic because onions could offer more tasty meal than that!
Onions are on of the most natural antibiotic food besides garlic and are excellent source to prevent arthritis, flu and colds.
Try adding onions into your soup recipes for a change.
This French Onion Soup turned out similar to creamy mushroom soup except for the fragrant onion flavor.
It is actually a mixture of raw onions caramelized with beef stock and thicken the soup with flour to form a creamy texture.
I had never tried French Onion Soup as this type of soup is usually serve in Western restaurant along with the main course dish.
I had long wanted to try this wonderful tasty soup which is healthy and nutritious.
Initially, I thought that the strong onion odor would have induce in the soup but it turned out fragrant and delicious, quite the opposite.
It doesn’t have the strong awful onion flavor but a little sweet and fragrant.
I love the creamy texture that blended well with the beef stock and the bay leaf.
You should try this onion soup recipe if you need to warm up your tummy!

French Onion Soup
4 tsp butter 2 yellow onions, peeled and sliced 2 tbsp plain flour 900ml ( 1.5 pint) beef stock 1 bay leaf 15g slices of French toast ( 4 pieces ) 60g (2 oz ) grated cheese salt and pepper to taste
1. Melt the butter in a pan and add in the slices of yellow onions. 2. Saute them for a few minutes until well browned. 3. Stir in beef stock and the flour to thicken the soup. 4. Simmer with low heat. 5. Add in the bay leaf, salt and pepper. Remove the bay leaf and turn off heat. 6. Pour the onion soup into individual bowls. 7. Sprinkle grated cheese on top of each slices of French toast. Toast in oven until the cheese started to bubble. 8. Remove from the oven. Allow the French toast to float on top of the onion soup. Serve hot.
# You need to brown well the yellow onions, almost caramelized before adding the other ingredients. # If you are out of French toast, you could use plain bread or wheat bread for substitute. Cut off the crust and toast them well until crisp before float the bread in the soup. # If you don't like beef stock, replace it with chicken stock or vegetable stock. # I used beef stock cube from Knorr instead from the canned
