Children look forward to their summer vacation time the entire school year. With the economy being what it is many families are looking for free activities that can entertain their children during the summer month, Cincinnati is no exception. Here are a few suggestions for things that will help pass the days in a fun and sometimes educational way
Krohns Conservatory is located in Eden Park and has a history that goes back 75 years. This area has long been the site of greenhouses, the first went up here as early as the 1880’s and displays of flowers were first offered to the public in the early 1900’s. Today the Art Deco structure is one of the highlights of the park system in Cincinnati. This is a great place to bring the children to view the over 3500 species of plants located in six different eco-
systems. It is open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free.
Mt. Echo Park is a great place to go for a hike and to let the kids run off some of that pent up energy. The park also has a playground which especially if you come in the early evening or early morning when the sun is not scorching hot is a great place for kids to enjoy themselves free of charge.
William H Taft Museum is owned by the National Park Department and admission is free. They have special activities for children 6-12 including their junior ranger program where the kids do specific activities and receive a certificate and badge when they are finished. The tour of the house is free.
The Cincinnati Public Library has a great website. Loads of activities for kids to do on their home computer are offered. They can do jigsaw puzzles, play games and much more. The library offers lots of programs at the library as well, including arts and crafts, book clubs for kids of all ages and tons of other things. The Library website has a wealth of information about free things to do all summer and every month of the year.
In the evening several times during the summer you can head to Eden Park for Classic movies under the stars. Bring your lawn chairs and blanket and enjoy a warm summers evening with the whole family.
Fountain Square has an ongoing series of events all year. Bring the kids down to stick their hands in the sheet of water or to listen to live music. Join in the annual water balloon toss and much more both during the day and in the evenings.
Cincinnati is a great city to live and for kids it’s a great place to be in the summer. It doesn’t have to cost anything to have a good time here. There are many free kids summer activities in Cincinnati, Ohio.
