Today’s dinner recipe is related to beef and Bombay onions which had become one of my favorite meaty dish at home. I named this dish; Fried Beef with Bombay Onions. Actually, it is a combination of onions and spring onions to overcome the beef odor!
Onions have layers
You can use large red onions or shallots , whichever you preferred but I chose Bombay onions because it is large in size and doesn’t sting my eyes when I peel off the onion layers of skin. Furthermore, Bombay onions are larger in size than red onions which means I could use bulb instead of 2 red onions.

Why use onions for beef recipes?
I love to add in lots of onion rings and sprinkle with lengthy spring onions which brings out the authentic taste of onions. In addition, onions helped to overcome the beef odor and tenderized the beef texture very well.
Onions also aids in digesting oily food, hard to digest meats and it is one of the natural antibodies for our immune system.
I can’t be bothered of the onions bad breathe after consuming them. You may be burping and smell bad onion odor in your breathe but it really doesn’t make your tummy feel bloated after a hearty meal.
As for the beef, choose the lean beef without any fats and as thin as possible. Thick meaty beef are hard to chew off and takes a longer time to cook which is waste of time and gas.
Alternatively, you can substitute beef with chicken keels or chicken breast or turkey which has more protein and cooks easily than beef dishes.
By the way, the price of beef is more expensive compare to chicken in our country. Having beef once in a while is considered a luxury meal for our family as chicken is one of the staple ingredient in all household, a common dish that everyone can have it anytime all around the year.
Black sauce and light soy sauce
To cook Fried Beef with Bombay Onions, you need to prepare slices of thin beef meat, Bombay onions in rings, 2 inch lengths of spring onions or you can replace it with leeks and a big piece of fresh young ginger to spice up the flavor.
The main sauce ingredients to this beef dish are black soy sauce and light soy sauce with a little of water to allow the beef steaks to absorb the wonderful flavor.
