There are two main ways to add a video to wordpress sites. I’m going to show you both of them
1. A Simple Link
Write your post first.
Then, go to YouTube and find the video you want to add to the post. Open the video. Then copy the url of the video from the browser bar.
Paste that link into your article where you’d like your video to appear.
If that doesn’t work, it might be because you have some code surrounding it that is making it not work.
At this point, you need to switch your editor to Text instead of visual.
See that code with BAD! pointed at it? If you see stuff like that – any code really – directly above or below your YouTube link, take it out. Delete that stuff. Your YouTube link should be on a line of its own with no code around it.
Do you see a LOT of code in your post? It might be because you copied it from Word to the editor. If you wrote your post in Word first you should copy it and then either paste it into a text editor (like notepad) or directly into the text editor – not the visual editor – so that all that yucky code doesn’t come with it. All that code can really mess with your post anyway.
So, now, when you publish, your YouTube video should work.
2. Insert a Video
Now, I did say it should work. For some unknown reason, there are just a handful of people that can’t get this to work and I have not been able to figure out why. But if that doesn’t work for you, this should.
Start by copying that same link as mentioned above.
Now, go back to your WordPress editor and click on the Insert tab and then Insert/Edit video link.
You’re going to paste your link here:
Note that you should be on the General tab and that nothing else needs to go into the other areas.
Click OK and you’ll see a video box in your article. When you publish it there’s a video there.
