Starting a business can be expensive, but working at home doesn’t need to be. In fact, there are some work at home ideas that don’t need all the start-up fees; some don’t need any at all. If you’re strapped for cash, here are four ideas that you can possibly choose from without much money.
All you need is a domain name and web hosting—and those can come for free if you really want to just instantly get started. Some writers start out without their own website, but it’s not recommended. You can sell your services through other sites, such as eBay and Fiverr. You can also bid for jobs, although again I don’t recommend it.
As you build up some money, you can invest some of it into your own freelance writing website. That will help you grow this work at home idea to become a full business.
Sell Affiliate Products
Rather than creating your own products, you can promote and sell other people’s stuff. There are many benefits, one of those being it doesn’t require any upfront costs. You don’t even need your own website, although it is beneficial.
This is one of the work at home ideas that requires no money at all. Sign up for services like Amazon Affiliates, ClickBank and Commission Junction and you can write articles or use social media to sell the products. Watch out as there are some catches to these sites, but if you’re great at selling you won’t need to worry about them.
Sell Your Own Items
What about making your own products? This takes out the middle man and means you get more money. However, this is one of the work at home ideas that requires a little bit of a start-up cost. You’ll need the money for your products.
Craft businesses often start out as small, work at home businesses. You can make a few items and sell them on Facebook or Pinterest. As you build your customer base, you can then spring for your own website.
Become a Social Media Marketer
This is another one of the ideas that doesn’t require any upfront costs. However, you will need to prove that you’re great at social media. Start by building your own networks and maybe those for local charities where you offer pro bono services in return for testimonials.
As you build your skills and portfolio, you can market to the larger companies and help them build their social media platforms. As you grow bigger, there are some costs to consider but to start with you don’t need to worry about anything.
There are you. Money isn’t a reason to not start your own business. The above four work at home ideas require very little—if any—money to start out. As you grow, you can then invest in your business. Good luck!
I'm Alexandria Ingham, and am a work at home mommy and full-time freelance writer. Writing has always been a passion from a young age, but it was only in 2009 that I decided to use it to make money online. Since then, I've managed to make a career out of it and don't regret it. While history and weight loss are two of my favorite topics, I love writing about absolutely anything and even have fictional pieces in the works.
